Collection: Chinese Curated Collection
Tea was originally discovered and cultivated in China. Legend has it that some tea leaves accidentally blew into a pot of boiling water being prepared for the Emperor Shennong in 2737 BCE. Practically speaking, it has been recorded that "brick tea" (see below) was used as medicine during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE - 220 BCE). By 760 BCE tea drinking had become a quintessential part of Chinese culture.
*Tea leaves were originally processed and compressed into brick form, ground into powder using a mortar and pestle, then mixed into boiling water. This "brick tea" is still available in China. We hope to be able to offer it here at Live Well Tea Co., some day soon.
